Transforming the Indian River Lagoon
At Lagoon Solutions, we are driven by a singular vision: the holistic restoration and enduring preservation of the Indian River Lagoon. Recognized as one of the most biodiverse estuaries in North America, the IRL is an ecological treasure that supports the livelihood, recreation, and natural heritage of our community. Here, we share our journey, commitments, and the impactful strides we’ve made in safeguarding this vital waterway.
IRL Clam Restoration Project
Since 2021, Lagoon Solutions has been an active partner in the Indian River Lagoon Clam Restoration Project. We’ve championed the cultivation and out-planting of clams across the lagoon from Volusia to St. Lucie County. Our efforts have not only helped replenish clam populations but also enhance water quality and biodiversity. Through strategic partnerships with waterfront businesses, we’ve facilitated clam out-planting and cultivated a public engagement model that raises awareness and involvement.
Collaborative Site Development
In alliance with Blair Wiggins Outdoors and the University of Florida’s Whitney Laboratory, we’ve embarked on a mission to secure and develop new clam restoration sites. These sites are crucial for expanding the scope of our restoration efforts, serving as new habitats for clams, and furthering our research and educational outreach.
Mangrove Education Initiative with Sea Redwine Preservation
Understanding the irreplaceable role of mangroves in coastal ecosystems, we’ve teamed up with Sea Redwine Preservation to construct and disseminate educational kiosks throughout Brevard County. These kiosks are information hubs, enlightening the community on the significance of mangroves in shoreline stabilization, water purification, and as a critical habitat in the IRL.
Public Outreach and Education
In a significant stride towards amplifying our impact, we’ve partnered with Whitey Laboratory on a grant from the Space Coast Office of Tourism. This collaboration is dedicated to informing both residents and visitors about the ongoing restoration successes and the promising future of IRL. Through this initiative, we aim to instill a sense of stewardship and encourage community-wide participation in our restoration endeavors.
Our Commitment
Our work is a testament to the power of collaboration, science, and community in confronting environmental challenges. We remain steadfast in our mission to nurture the Indian River Lagoon back to its pristine state, ensuring its wonders and resources endure for generations to come.
